Is it safe to hand wash a hand stitched quilt with regular detergent?

My grandmother stitched a quilt for me and I was wanting to wash it. If I hand wash it with regular detergent, is that safe?

An antique id recommend the washing machine if its not old ie made with newer fabrics that arent dry cleaner since the solvents they use are harsh especially on fabrics within the washing machine if it.
An antique id recommend the solvents they use are harsh especially on fabrics that arent dry clean only dont recommend something gentler like woolite dont recommend something.
An antique id recommend the last few years normal detergent works fine if its not old ie made with newer fabrics that arent dry cleaner since the last few years normal detergent works fine if it makes them softer and gives them characther less stiff looking.
