Can you machine wash quilts that aren’t old? Or should you handwash those as well?

My quilt is basically just a padding sandwich. It’s only around 20 years old, and it is a little worn, but will it really hurt it to use machines to wash and dry it?

I wouldn’t and definently don’t dry it in the dryer!
